Islamabad: 

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court hinted at banning YouTube in Pakistan. Justice Qazi Muhammad Amin and Justice Mushir Alam were hearing a case regarding sectarian crimes. During the hearing, The court object to content in social media.

Justice Qazi Amin remarked, “We are not against freedom of expression and masses have right to discuss our performance and decisions as we take salaries from public money but the constitution also provides us right of personal life but users of social media and YouTube are targeting our families.”

He also said, “Masses are being provoked against country’s army, government and judiciary.”

A PTA official said that we can only report misleading content but cannot remove it.

Justice Mushir Alam said, "YouTube is banned in many countries." He asked whether anyone would dare to post content about the United States or the European Union. Many countries have controlled social media through their Local laws. 

Some banned apps in Pakistan:

PTA has banned Bigo and warned TikTok for its content. It was said during a press release that several complaints have been received regarding immoral, vulgar and obscene content on social media. Especially, TikTok and Bigo and negative effects on society particularly youth.

A few weeks ago, PTA has also banned one of the most addicting games PUBG. Due to the concerns of the player's mental and physical health. PTA stated that numerous complaints have been received against the game calling it addictive, waste of time and harmful for young minds.

Pakistan digital space has been restricted to prevent crimes. By the federal organizations, PTA and FIA, Under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. YouTube has suffered a three-year ban in the previous decade. The ban was lifted when YouTube launched its local version in Pakistan.
